    6 new cheese products focus on snacking

    We highlighted six new cheese products that tap into convenience and easy snacking trends.

    Consumers want easy snacking options and are looking for ways to get more protein into their diets. This gives cheese companies the perfect opportunity to create innovations that cater to this need.

    To continue with our goal of highlighting new products for National Dairy Month, we’ve gathered some new cheese products that focus on snacking and convenience.

    Alouette Cheese, New Holland, Pa., launched two low-calorie cheese snack options – Le Bon Dip (a cheese and chunky vegetable dip) and Le Petite Fromage (portioned flavored cheese spreads).

    The Le Bon Dip is made with no artificial flavors or colors and contains 50 calories or less and 2 grams of protein per 2 tablespoon serving. It’s available in four varieties — basil, zucchini & Parmesan, fire roasted vegetables, zesty garden salsa, and roasted red pepper & chickpea — and sold in a 9-ounce container.

    Le Petite Fromage is made with no additives or preservatives and contains 40 calories and 2 grams of protein per individual portion (approximately 0.59-ounces). It’s available in four varieties — cucumber & dill, garden salsa, garlic & herb, and Parmesan & basil — and sold in a 4.7-ounce package containing eight portions.

     The American-made, French-inspired cheese snacks are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.99 to $4.29.

    Sargento Foods, Plymouth, Wis., introduced Sargento Balanced Breaks, a snack pack combo of natural cheese, roasted nuts and dried fruits. The 1.5-ounce individual-sized trays are sold in a 3-pack for a suggested retail price of $3.69. It comes in four varieties: Natural White Cheddar, sea-salted almonds and dried cranberries; Natural Sharp Cheddar, sea-salted cashews and cherry-infused cranberries; Natural Pepper Jack, honey roasted peanuts and raisins; and Natural Sharp White Cheddar, sea-salted cashews and golden raisin medley.     Jarlsberg cheese, a Norseland Inc. brand, Darien, Conn., introduced a new lite variety of its Minis (individually wrapped portions). Each 20 gram portion contains 50 calories and 7 grams of protein.

     All Jarslerg Minis are available at grocery retailers nationwide at a suggested retail price of $4.99 for a 5-count bag or 99 cents for minis sold individually.

    Borden Cheese products, Kansas City, Mo., made and distributed by Dairy Farmers of America, Kansas City, Mo., introduced Good2gether snack trays. The portable snack combines natural cheese and mini-twist pretzels in a prepackaged container. It's available in four varieties: either mild Cheddar, sharp Cheddar, Colby Jack or Pepper Jack cheese cubes in one compartment, and mini-twist pretzels in the other.

     The 2.05-ounce package features an easy-to-peel-back lid. It contains 11 grams of protein per serving/package. The cheese snack is available at select retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.99.

    Tillamook cheese, Tillamook, Ore., launched new cheese sticks to its line. Available in two varieties — Medium Cheddar and Colby Jack — each 0.75-ounce stick contains 90 calories, 5 grams of protein and 7 grams of fat.

     It’s sold in 10-count packages for a suggested retail price of $3.99. The cheese is sold at Albertsons in California and the PNW, Fred Meyer and QFC (both Kroger stores) in the Pacific Northwest and Bashas in Arizona.
